NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Former atomic weapons workers in New Mexico are being recognized for their heroism and patriotism ahead of the National Day of Remembrance. The organization, Nuclear Care Partners, held a luncheon on Tuesday at the View Event Center to give proper thanks to the workers they say are "unsung heroes."

Organizers said for decades, these employees have made great sacrifices to ensure the continued safety of America. "It's just been a great opportunity to say thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifice, a lot of them have gotten sick from the exposure, the things they're around, the chemicals, toxins, radiation, so it's just an opportunity to thank them in a public forum," said Community Outreach Manager Alex Chapman, Nuclear Care Partners.
Nuclear Care Partners also held an event in Los Alamos on Monday. The day of remembrance is celebrated nationally on October 30.
