Stray bullet hits Chesapeake home, residents concerned

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A family on Woodbridge Drive in Chesapeake was just enjoying a night at home when a stray bullet came through their master bedroom window. There were no injuries reported, but residents still have questions.
"What could have gone wrong is really bad, like you could've killed somebody," said David Einfeldt. "You could've killed a kid. "You could've robbed children of a parent."
Einfeldt and his family said their Chesapeake neighborhood is fairly quiet, without many disturbances — that was, until Oct. 19.
"I pulled this back and we found the bullet exit hole, and I was like, 'Wow, that went clean through," Einfeldt said.
A stray bullet ended up going directly into their home. No one was in the room, but children were in the backyard when the shot rang out. Thankfully no one was injured, but it has left neighbors shaken.
"You can clearly see that this bullet came in — I'm 5-foot-8, so it came in at 5-foot-6, 5-foot-7, and for somebody my height, this is a headshot," Einfeldt said.
Details are unclear about who discharged the firearm and where the shot came from. Residents believe it could've been an accident.
According to Chesapeake Police Public Information Officer Leo Kosinski said the incident is under investigation, but these residents hope someone comes forward.
"You're going to do something that might've killed somebody,"Einfeldt said, "and you're going to waste all these resources to make the police come track you down, it would've been a whole lot better if you just came forward right away."
Chesapeake police are continuing to investigate the incident.
