LIGONIER, Ind. (WANE) -- A soldier whose death has been ruled a homicide returned home Tuesday, according to Facebook posts by the West Noble American Legion. Roque's body was transported from Indianapolis via motorcade to Ligonier where a processional route has been designated, followed by a vigil. Roque enlisted in 2020 and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. The 23-year-old served as a mine dog handler and a member of the 5th Engineer Battalion. Her body was found in a trash bin last week and a person of interest was taken into custody on Friday. No cause of death was given, but the Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division said that the death is being investigated as a homicide. According to the American Legion, Roque's body was transported to Ligonier from Indianapolis via I-465 to I-69 to U.S. 33 to the back entrance of West Noble High School on Charger Avenue. From there, the procession traveled back onto U.S. 33 through town to Lincolnway West to Main Street to Union Street and then to Yeager Funeral Home. Flags will also be available for those who need them at the West Noble American Legion Post. A tribute to Sgt. Roque is going to be created at the West Noble School Corporation Memorial Gardens.
