(PUEBLO, Colo.) — An open house will be held in Pueblo for families of missing people to bring photos, medical records, and provide DNA samples to help law enforcement in their search.
The Missing Persons Open House will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Pueblo Police Department (PPD), 200 S. Main St. in Pueblo.
According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the purpose of the event is to collect family reference samples from those biologically related to the missing person. PPD and the CBI would like to collect at least two samples per missing person case.
The CBI encourages families of those missing to attend the event and bring medical and dental records, as well as photographs. The CBI is also looking to collect DNA samples from those biologically related to the missing person, at least two samples per missing person case.
The CBI said collecting from both mother and father of the missing person is preferable, though if either are unavailable, collections can be obtained from a child of the missing person. The CBI can also collect DNA samples from more distant relatives if necessary, including siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
The collection process consists of a cheek swab and should take no more than 30 minutes, the CBI said. Appointments are not necessary, families are encouraged to attend at their convenience during the 1 - 8 p.m. window.
