Great Plains Food Bank starts program for farmers to aid in hunger relief
Oct 29, 2024
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — The Great Plains Food Bank has launched a commodity gifting program, called Grow, Give & Gain, which allows farmers and ranchers to support hunger relief by donating agricultural goods.
This new program can help reduce producers' tax burden and provide food to 185 different pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens serving people in North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota.
"Commodity gifting has allowed us to make tax-exempt donations while still retaining our standard deduction," said Clair and Jennifer Hauge, North Dakota ranchers and long-time supporters of the Great Plains Food Bank. "It has been an integral part of our business and tax planning for more than a decade. We are excited to use this option to support the great work done by the Great Plains Food Bank."
Coalition of landlords pledges to lower rent if Measure 4 passes
Last year, 1 in 6 people in North Dakota and Clay County, MN received food from the Great Plains Food Bank and their partner agencies — and 1 in 4 were kids. This program is meant to ensure that everyone in this area is nourished, and no one is left behind. Farmers and ranchers can donate commodities, ensuring that their gift has the maximum impact on neighbors living with food insecurity.
"Great Plains Food Bank has established a wonderful program to make the acceptance of commodity gifts very convenient and easy," shared Kwadwo T. Mensah, Vice President and Senior Wealth Advisor of Bremer Wealth.
