BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Open Door Network broke ground on its new campus in Bakersfield, which has been years in the making. The facility will be a new safe haven for homeless people, sexual assault victims, as well as survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. It's a one-stop shop for all the services the network provides. The current complex at 1600 E. Truxtun Ave. the Open Door Network currently uses for its services was bought by the California High-Speed Rail system. Now they're moving to 529 Dolores St. in East Bakersfield. Open Door Network reveals ‘Butterfly Collection’ art installation "It's been almost a decade in the making to get to the groundbreak of the Open Door Network's new campus," said Lauren Skidmore, the Director of Open Door Network. "We've been working on this project for a very long time knowing that the existing campus was not able to hold strong and true to the values that we have to serve our clients." The new campus will be complete with everything the Open Door Network already offers to homeless residents, domestic violence survivors, and child abuse victims. It can now introduce new services it has been wanting to provide. "Mental and medical health, we're gonna provide, on-site certificate programs through Kern Community College District and Bakersfield College, we'll be able to have a children's museum, some more healing rooms, some more private spaces, meditation, yoga," Skidmore said.
