(FOX40.COM) -- What started as a blisteringly hot October has now included a round of measurable snowfall in the Sierra Nevada.
Exactly four weeks after Northern California was battling summer-like temperatures, a fresh inch of snow blanketed parts of the Sierra Nevada on Monday.

The UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab (CSSL) said that there is plenty more to come later this week as they await a larger storm system to arrive.

On Oct. 17, CSSL measured the first snowfall in the lower elevation of the Sierra as exactly 0.5 cm fell in Soda Springs.
Videos from the CSSL on Monday show some heavier flurries along with larger snowflakes.
This snowfall is a positive sign for California's much-needed snowpack but also presents a hazard to drivers.
From Truckee to South Lake Tahoe, the California Highway Patrol said it responded to calls from drivers unprepared for the slick roadway conditions.
