Rochester man sentenced for throwing firework at officers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Rochester man who threw a firework at police officers during a 2020 protest demanding justice for Daniel Prude was sentenced to serve 33 months in prison Tuesday.
JohnMichael Santiago, 25, pleaded guilty to civil disorder and assaulting a federal officer.
Santiago was among the protesters on Broad Street and Exchange Boulevard in Rochester on September 5, 2020. He was not arrested at the protest, but police said he later confessed to throwing a firework at officers.
Santiago was also accused of assaulting corrections officers at the Livingston County Jail in 2023. Prosecutors said one officer was concussed, and another injured their back. Santiago was charged with felony assault in that case.
