MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A dog who was abandoned in a vacant lot with no food or water in Merced, is getting the chance at a new life hundreds of miles away in Washington thanks to a pet rescue "airline" group.
Rescue officials say the two-year-old poodle named Liberty was found in poor shape.
Liberty is Wings of Rescue's 75,000th pet that will be getting a new beginning because of the pet transport charity.
Wings of Rescue says they transported 40-50 cats and dogs from Merced, California to Spokane, Washington on Monday.

According to the rescue group's officials, they deliver at-risk pets from high-kill shelters and disaster zones to shelters where available kennel space and willing adopters ensure those pets will quickly get placed into new homes.
Wings of Rescue says Liberty was boarded onto the group's Pilatus PC12 turboprop airplane.
According to Wing of Rescue's CEO, Ric Browde, Liberty will be at their partner shelter, Spokanimal.
"She is in desperate need of a new, loving home, proper care and should be living a life of joy and companionship, not one of isolation and fear," Browde said.
