JACKSON COUNTY (KSNT) - First responders took action Tuesday to help local residents escape danger from an approaching wildfire in Jackson County. Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said in a press release that deputies helped evacuate an area just north of 182nd Road and east of Highway 75 around noon on Oct. 29 due to a wildfire. Strong winds and dry prairie created "complete blackout conditions" in the area. Morse said the evacuations started around 12:30 p.m. as first responders from multiple agencies arrived to help put out the flames. Fire crews out of Mayetta, Hoyt, Holton and other local groups were deployed. Crews brought the fire under control just before 12:45 p.m. and fully doused it by 1:35 p.m. "Crews remain on scene mopping up the area," Morse said. "The area is safe to return to at this time.  Please be alert to these dangerous conditions." Kansas game wardens rescue hunters trapped by wildfires For more Kansas news, click here.
