GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Vermont man was arrested on drug trafficking charges Friday morning after state police discovered suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on I-91 in Greenfield. Enfield man arrested after allegedly driving over 100 MPH on I-84 According to state police, after 2 a.m. on October 25, police noticed a vehicle traveling northbound on I-91 at approximately 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. Courtesy of Massachusetts State Police The vehicle, known to the troopers from a prior traffic stop hours earlier, had invalid license plates and had previously been towed from the scene. Additionally, the car’s owner, identified as Deven Barrette, 33, of Sheldon, Vermont, was found to have a suspended driver’s license. The troopers stopped the vehicle and confirmed that Barrette was the driver. After placing him under arrest, they conducted a search, discovering a device containing suspected crack cocaine and a package with approximately 50 grams of suspected heroin. Further inspection of the vehicle revealed additional items associated with drug packaging and distribution, along with a significant amount of cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Barrette was brought to the Shelburne Falls Barracks for booking, where a bail commissioner set bail at $10,000. He was then taken to Greenfield District Court for arraignment on the following charges: Trafficking in Heroin/Fentanyl Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle Speeding License Plate Violation Barrette is scheduled to return to court as the investigation into the trafficking allegations continues.
