RIDOH recommends lifting advisories at Lake Washington and Keech Pond
Oct 29, 2024
GLOCESTER, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced the blue-green algae advisory at Lake Washington and Keech Pond can be lifted.
Recent tests show that the blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, is present at acceptably low levels, and cyanotoxin is not present in detectable concentrations.
Recreational activities can now resume at Keech Pond and Lake Washington.
On Sept. 20, RIDOH recommended the public to avoid Keech Pond due to high levels of the algae, and on Oct. 3 for Lake Washington.
RIDOH advises the public to be aware of blue-green algae in any body of water due to its conditions being able to change quickly.
The public should avoid waterbodies that are bright green or have a floating algal mat on the surface.
