BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) — The owner of the Burrillville home made famous by "The Conjuring" franchise was arrested Monday night for allegedly driving under the influence, according to police. Jacqueline Nuñez pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of driving under the influence of liquor and eluding law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit. She was released on $2,000 personal recognizance pending her next court date, which is scheduled for Nov. 12. A police report obtained by 12 News states officers were initially called to Chapel Street for reports of an erratic driver. TARGET 12: ‘The Conjuring’ house owner fires employee, citing accusations from the beyond Police spotted a white Lexus stopped near the intersection of Hill and West roads. The driver, later identified by police as Nuñez, sped off as the officers were approaching her vehicle. Nuñez led the officers on a brief pursuit through town, during which she kept randomly swerving and rapidly accelerating, according the police report. She eventually stopped in front of a home on Wallum Lake Road. Police said the officers drew their department-issued firearms and approached Nuñez's vehicle to execute what the report describes as "a high-risk traffic stop." Nuñez, who was gripping the steering wheel, started mumbling at the officers and asked them, "What's wrong?" before being handcuffed and placed into the back of a cruiser, the report continues. Police also said Nuñez was unsteady on her feet and required assistance getting out of her car. Nuñez was not only "mumbling and not making coherent sentences" while speaking with the officers, she also identified herself as the owner of "The Conjuring" house, according to police. The report states that Nuñez underwent a series of field sobriety tests, during which she refused to listen and laughed at the officers. Nuñez allegedly told police, "You're boring me" in the middle of the first test. According to the police report, Nuñez also insulted the officers several times while being processed and attempted to rip up a form she was asked to fill out. In addition to the charges, Nuñez was issued citations for refusing to submit to a chemical test, speeding, driving with an expired registration, leaving the lane of travel, and not obeying stop signs. This comes after Burrillville Police Chief Stephen Lynch rejected Nuñez's application to renew her entertainment license for "The Conjuring" house, which was first reported by The Providence Journal. Nuñez's entertainment license, which allows her to host guests for tours and overnight visits, is slated to expire in November. MORE: ‘The Conjuring’ house owner under scrutiny as more former employees come forward 12 News asked Lynch why he rejected Nuñez's application renewal, to which he replied, "I found that her submissions last week for her license were inappropriate." Nuñez, who bought the historic farmhouse two years ago for roughly $1.5 million, has been under intense scrutiny in recent months. It all started back in August when a former employee claimed he was fired by Nuñez after she accused him of stealing money. Brian Dansereau said Nuñez told him the spirit of John Arnold — who owned the home with his wife Abigail in the 1800s — is the one who warned her of the supposed theft. Dansereau has since filed a complaint against Nuñez with the R.I. Department of Labor and Training. Nuñez has also been accused of withholding an insurance payout from two other former employees after the barn next to "The Conjuring" house, which was filled with their possessions, caught fire. Additionally, the star of the hit TV show “Ghost Hunters” claims Nuñez is harassing him with false accusations that he was trespassing on her property. Close Thanks for signing up!
