WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A new Buc-ee's location is planned in West Memphis, Arkansas, city leaders confirmed Tuesday.
Mayor Marco McClendon said in a Facebook post that the 74,000-square-foot facility would have 120 gas pumps and create around 225 jobs. An exact location and opening date were not released, but the city says they anticipate groundbreaking to begin soon.
McClendon called it a huge win for West Memphis. Tourism Director Jim Jackson called it a "game-changer."
A bond issue for Buc-ee's was on the agenda for a special called city council meeting Tuesday. The deal was approved Tuesday afternoon, city officials said.
If the West Memphis project moves forward it would be the second Buc-ee's location in the metro Memphis area.
News broke in August about a Buc-ee's location in Gallaway, Tennessee, just east of Memphis, though the store has not yet opened.
