HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) -- Madison Crowell earned more than $15 million in scholarship money after being accepted into 231 schools.
Ultimately, it was a university right here in the Piedmont Triad that received this gifted student’s commitment.
Crowell is thriving in her freshman year at High Point University where she was awarded a full-tuition scholarship.
“It's been amazing. I've made so many new friends. I've started to get involved here,” she said.
Crowell is part of the Bonner Leader Program which allows her to express her commitment to service not only on campus but also within the greater High Point community.
“We're a very diverse group of leaders, and we work here around High Point whether it be the city of High Point, Macedonia, West End Ministries, the Community Writing Center … D-UP is where I personally work ... with elementary school kids ... middle school kids,” Crowell said.
She says her success is bigger than her personal goals. Crowell wants her accomplishments to encourage youth in her community of Savannah, Georgia.
“Hinesville ... is low income, so there's kids that don't have the money to get new uniforms every year,” she said.
“There’s kids that have to wear the same uniform multiple days in a row because they don't have a washing machine at home. They don't have change to go to the laundromat … I just want to show them that you can come to an illustrious campus and be able to get the education that you deserve no matter what your background is," she said.
Crowell and her mother started The Sky is NOT the Limit, LLC.
Their workshops help guide other students and families on how to prepare for college or the workforce by showing them how to find the resources that will help them succeed.
“We're just trying to reach as many students as we can to kind of spread this information that they might not get otherwise," she said.
Just a few months into her freshman year, Crowell is excited for what’s next. “
It's all going to be worth it in the end because I'm here on this beautiful campus, and I get to be here every single day surrounded by so many kind people," she said.
Crowell is studying exercise science at High Point University.
Her long-term goals include earning a doctoral degree and becoming a physical therapist.
