RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Polling places in North Carolina, a key swing state on the path to the White House, continue to see lines of voters waiting to cast a ballot in the 2024 General Election. With a full week to go before Election Day, more than 3 million people have voted in North Carolina, according to the NC State Board of Elections. The high turnout trend began on Oct. 17, when N.C. set the record for highest turnout on the first day of early voting with 353,166 ballots cast. In its latest tally, the NCSBE said exactly 3,102,408 ballots have been counted. This number combines the amount of early voting ballots cast (2,936,297) and the amount of absentee ballots cast (166,111). With these 3.1 million votes already accounted for, that represents nearly 40% of registered voters in the state. As of the latest count, dated Oct. 26, North Carolina is home to 7,793,041 registered voters.
