Election 2024: Meet Dina Johnson and Tia Mills, who are running for East Baton Rouge Metro Council District 2

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Election Day in Louisiana is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and four candidates are looking to fill the seat for East Baton Rouge Metro Council District 2.
All of the candidates in the race for EBR Metro Council District 2 are Democrats and they are Eugene Collins, Dina Johnson, Anthony Kenney and Tia Mills. They each filed to run for this position in July.
Johnson and Mills are both educators, community advocates and leaders. They shared what they plan to focus on if elected into office.
Voting hours on Election Day are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can find where you are supposed to vote on Nov. 5 at this website or by calling the Registrar of Voters Office in your parish.

Johnson's goal is to improve infrastructure and drainage, the food desert, blighted property, restoration and revitalization, and affordable and quality housing.
"I will promote more businesses to come to District 2," said Johnson. "However, before we go into promoting them, it goes into the infrastructure, which also relates to beautification. It's that we need to clean up District 2."

"I'm committed, I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere," said Mills.
Mills says she's been involved in her community for decades and has served in several positions. She says her goal is to collaborate more and bring a more unified community back to District 2.
"A districtwide town hall meeting, bringing everyone together in a central location, so everyone can be a part of the plan, be a part of the discussion because that's what, that's how planning and working together should look like," said Mills.
