209 Paddington Road117 Upnor Road and 209 Paddington Road*, Homeland, Baltimore.Hot House: Two Palmer & Lamdin Houses, Similarities and Contrasts. What: This is a double-whammy of my favorite things: Stone houses and Palmer & Lamdin architecture! And in Homeland, to be extra special.117 Upnor RoadThe house at 117 Upnor Road showcases some of Palmer & Lamdin’s trademark mix of stone and brick, as well as their signature dominant chimneys. You enter through a classic pedimented front, with Ionic columns framing the doors. 117 Upnor RoadThe living room features two arched built-in book/display cases and an elegant fireplace. There are also French doors leading to a stone patio. The dining room has hardwood floors, a long window seat and elegant sconces that remain in the house.117 Upnor RoadThe kitchen has been updated, and has a gas Wolf range, plus a stand-alone oven and built-in microwave. There is also glass-fronted cabinetry, subway tiling, Belfast sink, and a custom wood-fronted refrigerator.117 Upnor RoadAs you head upstairs, the landing features an elaborate Palladian window overlooking a second-floor porch. There is an updated double bathroom off of the main bedroom, which also has French doors leading to the porch. An additional bed and bath occupy the second floor, and the remaining beds and baths are on the third floor.209 Paddington RoadThe house at 209 Paddington one of a number of similarly-styled stone houses along Paddington Road, all designed by Palmer & Lamdin. The group of house provides a cohesive look along that section of the road. Once again, this is a stone house rendered in a Cotswolds style common to Palmer & Lamdin. The interior is filled with myriad details common to the architects.209 Paddington RoadThe nearly double-height living room provides a dose of drama with beams and trusses. There are French doors and windows along both sides of the room which is anchored by a wood-burning fireplace. The dining room also features French doors leading to an awning-covered patio. The galley kitchen leads to a convenient mud-room.There is a bedroom suite on the first floor, plus two ensuite bedrooms on the second floor and an additional bedroom/den on the third floor.209 Paddington RoadThe plantings and gardens are reminiscent of a small English village and the property as a whole is charming.Where: Homeland is bound by Homeland Avenue on the south side, Lake Avenue on the north, and Charles and York on the west and east sides. It’s convenient to too many shops, restaurants, and schools to list here.  Final Appraisal: It is unusual for two Palmer & Lamdin houses to come on the market at the same time. Both are stone houses in differing styles and configurations. But both are delightful houses which hark back to the heyday of beautiful residential architecture. The listing for the houses are here and here.*Upnor: 5 beds/5 baths. 3,732 square feet. $998,000Paddington: 4 beds/4 baths. 3,285 square feet. $899,000All photographs from the listing.
