Spotty showers until morning storms arrive Thursday
Oct 29, 2024
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Only isolated showers moved through Central Texas today and we expect we'll end the afternoon and head into the evening dry.
Overnight the clouds fill back in bringing a renewed chance for a few spotty showers for Wednesday morning. Afternoon sun on Wednesday should push temperatures up near 90º while any pop-up storm potential remains isolated.
Our best chance of rain during the work week comes as a cold front approaches Central Texas early Thursday. This front looks a little more likely to push through Central Texas and bring a broken line of rain along with it.
Scattered showers and storms expected Thursday morning
Rainfall amounts look light as this line will move through rather quickly, but most areas will end up with less than a quarter inch of rain Thursday morning, although some localized amounts up to 1 inch will be possible.
The severe weather threat is low for the overnight hours through Thursday morning, but it's possible one or two storms may bring some gusty winds. Most of the area is under a level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk for Thursday morning.
The timing of the rain should mean your best chance for rain on Thursday will be during the morning through the middle of the day. Rain chances are much lower, but not zero, through the afternoon and for trick-or-treating Halloween evening as skies mostly clear for the second half of the day.
Halloween forecast
Friday into the Weekend
Additional periods of rain and storms look to be with us later in the day on Friday through the weekend and into early next week. Saturday and next Tuesday appear to standout as having the highest rain chances after Thursday. Tuesday is Election Day, so if you're trying to avoid the weather impacting your vote, it would make sense to early vote this week!
Rain chances over the next week
By next Tuesday we expect the 7-day rainfall totals to range from half an inch up to 1.5 inches for most places.
