Police still 'verifying' info about crash between 8yearold on dirt bike and officer

Police have released more information about a crash between an officer and an 8-year-old boy riding a dirt bike in Sarasota Monday night.The Sarasota Police Department said the incident, which involved one of their officers, occurred around 6:30 p.m. near 22nd Street and Maple Avenue.According to police, the officer was leaving the scene of a different call for service when the crash happened. The area was closed for several hours while they gathered evidence.The boy was seriously injured and is currently being treated at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police said he is still hospitalized as of Tuesday morning.The officer was uninjured and is currently on restricted administrative duty.
