Wintry weather to the north widespread dust around New Mexico
Oct 29, 2024
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Despite some passing clouds drifting east with valley rain and mountain snow in The Four Corners, most are starting off with dry air at the surface, but it's a bit gusty from The East Plains to The Northern Mountains with southwesterly winds once again picking up. The mixing of the air is allowing for temperatures to struggle to drop for most areas. Temperatures are mostly ranging from the upper 20s to the low-to-mid 60s across New Mexico, above normal for this time of the year.

The low pressure system approaching The Four Corners is bringing in not only some precipitation with more clouds, but also as it moves through, not as warm and windier conditions. As temperatures will rise, southwesterly winds will rise even more, locally producing damage with more-widespread blowing dust with the even higher fire risk than yesterday. From the morning school commute on into the afternoon, temperatures will eventually reach into the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s from northwest to southeast in lower elevation.
As the trough of low pressure quickly moves through to the north later today, colder air will ensue tonight and after a calmer but cooler day tomorrow afternoon, freezing morning temperatures are even more likely for the first time this season by Halloween morning around The Metro, as well as surrounding areas. However, temperatures will eventually rebound later this week as humid air will stick around in The East Plains.
