More than 2,000 employees at CarePoint Health’s three Hudson County hospitals continue to fear for their survival as the most recent effort to restructure the fiscally-troubled network has collapsed.Justin Drew, CarePoint chief of staff and vice president, last night confirmed that Insight Health, a Mid-West for-profit Islamic health network, is out of the picture. And he declined to provide details about reports of a possible settlement that could see Hudson Regional Heath Care, of Secaucus, in a position to take over all three hospitals. In an email statement, Drew issued the following statement:“On Sunday (October 27) evening, at CarePoint’s board meeting, Dr. Jawad Shah, founder and CEO of Insight, made a personal decision to step down as President and CEO of CarePoint Health. This morning (October 28), Dr. Achintya Moulick, chairman of the board, was reinstated as President and CEO of CarePoint Health System by a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees.”Drew added that, “Dr. Moulick has continued to be deeply involved with CarePoint as chairman of the board, maintaining a close understanding of all ongoing efforts and initiatives.”“With his extensive knowledge and commitment, he remains dedicated to guiding the organization forward, ensuring that our hospitals (in Bayonne, Jersey City and Hoboken) continue to be vital pillars of these communities.”“Working alongside CarePoint’s leadership, physicians, employee unions and community stakeholders, Dr. Moulick is focused on achieving a sustainable path that preserves healthcare access in Hudson County.”“The CarePoint Health board is actively considering multiple restructuring opportunities already in motion to create a unified and enduring Community Health System for the people who need it most in Hudson County.”“We appreciate the dedication and commitment by our incredibly talented clinicians and staff to our patients and the communities we serve here in Hudson County.”Drew’s statement did not address how the restructuring of CarePoint will impact the 2,000-plus employees who received Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notices in the face of contemplated mass layoffs that could take effect December 12.Also sidestepped was the issue of how CarePoint will satisfy the reportedly millions of dollars in unpaid bills owed to vendors and other parties. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy sale has reportedly been discussed by the parties involved in negotiations monitored by the state Department of Health, which has declined to respond to questions raised by Jersey City Times about the negotiations.Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla who were critical of CarePoint, were dumped from the CarePoint Community Advisory Board after they went public with their concerns.Unions representing CarePoint workers staged a recent public rally, with Fulop, Bhalla and various county and state elected officials in attendance, calling for the protection of the three hospitals and securing the jobs of their employees. The post Deal to Save CarePoint Collapses, Future in Limbo appeared first on Jersey City Times.
