Beachwood vs. Norwayne What: Division III regional semifinal When: 7 p.m., Oct. 30 Where: North Royalton, 14713 Ridge Road Records: Beachwood 17-1-2, Norwayne 15-2-1 What’s next: Winner advances to a regional final at noon Nov. 3 against Field or Poland Seminary at Niles McKinley. What to look for: Beachwood exacted a slight measure of revenge with a 3-0 district final win over Andrews Osborne, which ousted the Bison in a 2023 D-III regional final en route to the state championship. This side is hungry and eager to shed that distinction of having been to the regional level so often in the last decade but coming up short of state. Any conversation about Beachwood has to start with its brilliant attacking central midfielder Grant Keilin. The 2023 All-American is up to 38 goals and 16 assists this fall. His adeptness with both feet, service sense to incorporate his teammates and, above all, his power on the ball as a match dictator and while shooting from anywhere on the pitch makes him one of the most complete players in recent memory to grace The News-Herald coverage area ranks. It’s not a one-man band here, though — not even close. Jaycob Zabell (16-10) has been impressive in his senior campaign, and Asher Gearity (15-9) has really come into his own as a junior. Daniel Park (8-8) is a budding standout in this side as a sophomore mid, and freshman Jose Agudelo (4-7) has been a welcome addition with his pace and width. In the defensive third, center back Kyle Bennett is as steady and experienced as they come, a commanding performer who can contribute on set pieces as well. And goalkeeper Josh Rosenblitt, a Division I baseball recruit as a pitcher, is a first-class shot-stopper. Norwayne has won nine of 10 since Sept. 19 and conceded just 11 goals all season. The Bobcats drew Kidron Central Christian, beat Cardinal Mooney by the 2-0 margin that Beachwood also did in the regular season and had to go to extra time in its district semi and district final, the latter against Gilmour, to get here. Between big-stage experience and Keilin’s propensity to take over a match, it feels like the Bison would have the upper hand in this one. But as it should in the sweet 16, it may not come easy.
