NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — It’s been 25 years since Katie Decubellis was hit and killed by a drunk driver.
Back in 1999, Decubellis was in a car with her best friend Becky and her mother, when they were hit.
Decubellis did not survive the accident.
Over the last two and a half decades, Decubellis’ parents, Meg and John, have worked tirelessly to turn the tragedy to help others by starting the Katie Decubellis Memorial Foundation.
The foundation has raised over a million dollars for scholarships, community projects, and promoting awareness for drunk driving dangers.
“It’s been 25 years of missing you. 9125 days without your smiling face. Countless hours longing to hear your voice. And a broken heart every day,” the foundation shared on Facebook.
Decubellis would have been 38-years-old this year.
