Valley Brook man upset for receiving citation after cutting his grass

VALLEY BROOK, Okla. (KFOR) — A new homeowner is upset after receiving a citation for something he says he took care of weeks ago.
A Valley Brook resident received a warning for having too tall grass so he cut it, but a month later he received a citation.
Austen Love has been living in his home less than a year. He was ready to start his next chapter of life after college, but didn't expect something like this to happen right away.
"I know my yard is not the prettiest, but I wouldn't say this is dangerous," Love said.
Love is confused and upset. He cut his grass once he received a warning from the City of Valley Brook that his yard was too high.
More than 30 days after the warning, a citation came along.
"It was over $200," Love said.
He says he received the citation for reasons he can't wrap his head around.
"One of the reasons, they said was it was a danger to the community," Love said. "That really doesn't make sense when the park's grass is normally taller than my yard. And it's like, if this is a danger to the community, then they're basically saying that our park is always dangerous."

When he received the warning, his grass was above the city ordinance limit of 12 inches.
"I could agree with that 100%," Love said. "It needed cut pretty bad."
Which is why he cut it immediately, and why he is confused that he received a citation so long after.
"Over 30 days and a cop comes up to our door and says, 'you got to take it for not cutting the grass because you got the red tag warning,'" Love said.
News 4 reached out to the City of Valley Brook on Friday who said they were aware of the situation and would get back to us, but we did not hear back.
So, we reached out to them again Monday. They said the Chief of Police would contact me, but still we never heard back.
Love hopes to get the citation removed.
"I'm confused on how we got a ticket for something we already cut and got taken care of," Love said.
Love says he will continue to fight this with the city until he gets a resolution.
He has a court date set for December 4.
