'Too much fire': Logan County mother reacts following wildfire evacuation
Oct 29, 2024
LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) – A Logan County mother says she and her children were stressed following an evacuation order near their neighborhood Monday due to a wildfire.
Logan County Emergency Management issued the order after fire crews received a call just before 1 p.m. Monday that a fire was burning west of Langston, near SH-33.
"We've had several homes and structures in the path of the fire," said Dustyn King with Logan County Emergency Management.
King says crews from neighboring fire departments responded quickly, setting up an evacuation point at a nearby gas station with the Red Cross also on standby for any assistance needed.
King didn't have a rough estimate of how many acres the fire had burned, but said that the area crews had been working in stretched at least two miles. Strong winds also didn't do much to aid efforts to keep some flames from popping back up again as they fanned and rekindled numerous hot spots.
"I left to get gas," said Soraya Delgado, who told News 4 she was told not to return to her home temporarily. "It's two streets behind where the fire is probably heading to."
Logan County officials say Delgado and less than a dozen other property owners were told to temporarily evacuate. She had her kids in the car with her as well, all under the age of 13.

"I just have to wait to see what happens next," said Delgado.
Thankfully, Delgado and her neighbors were allowed to return to their homes a few hours after the initial order to leave them. She described the experience as being fairly terrifying.
"It was pretty bad just seeing how the first just kept on not stopping," said Delgado. "It's very crazy. Too much fire, I saw too much fire today."
King told News 4 employees that crews would likely be out monitoring flames overnight, noting that the wind wasn't helping their efforts.
"Anybody that's lived here knows Oklahoma winds are nothing to laugh at when it comes to fire season," said King.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Per a Monday evening update, no homes, lives or livestock had been lost.
Logan County is currently under a burn ban.
