CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) —If you commute to work, you are in good company. An estimated 74% of Americans commute, spending an average of 55 minutes going to and from the job each day.
If you are one of the more than 577,000 Charlotte commuters spending an average of 28 minutes commuting one way to work, you know first-hand that Queen City has some of the heaviest congestion in the state.
This Triad city is the deadliest city to drive in during rush hour in the United States: data
But how does the Charlotte commute compare to other metropolitan areas across the country?
The report card is out and it's not good. But if you drove to work this morning on I-85, 277, 485, I-77, and other congested roadways, you already knew that. No matter how nice your car or how pleasant your playlist is, no one enjoys driving in traffic that can slow to a snail's pace.
Forbes just released their latest commuting report. Charlotte was ranked as having the second-worst commute in America.
It's a nail-biter for sure. For many drivers, this grueling travel to and from is the most stressful part of their job, surviving the journey and getting back home safely with their fingernails intact.
And then there are the aggressive drivers, tailgaters, those that never signal, and the occasional road-ragers with guns. God help us. For drivers who find Charlotte metro traffic too nerve-wracking, back roads are typically less stressful.
According to a report from the National Transportation Research Non-Profit, nearly one-third of roads in North Carolina are considered in bad or mediocre condition.
The Forbes report reveals Nashville ranked No. 1 as the hardest commute on the list, thanks to heavy traffic attributed to massive growth in recent years. This sounds similar to Charlotte with mobs of newcomers moving to the Queen City in record numbers.
