The Yankees could be saying goodbye to some key players after Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night. Massive turnover for the American League champions could be near after the Yanks fell into a 3-0 series deficit against the Dodgers on Monday night as there are several key free agents who played huge roles in getting them into the Fall Classic. Juan Soto leads the group of contract-year Bombers heading into the open market. The 26-year-old megastar figures to command record money after a career regular season — .288/.419/.569 with 41 homers and 109 RBI — followed up by tremendous success in the postseason adding one of the most memorable home runs in Yankee history to send them to the World Series in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians. Soto’s future will almost certainly be determined by the dollar and another Yankee could be joining him for a nice payday after a strong finish to the regular season and postseason. Gleyber Torres turned his contract season around once he was bumped into the leadoff spot. The second baseman’s tenure with the Yankees has been rocky as they reportedly explored trade opportunities to send him elsewhere at past trade deadlines. The 27-year-old has played all seven seasons of his career in pinstripes and the possibility he is playing his last game in that uniform looms large. Torres enters Game 4 with a .390 on-base percentage in 49 playoff at-bats out of the leadoff spot. Other Yankees — who weren’t always in the good graces of their fan base — could be coming out of the first base dugout for the last time at the stadium such as Alex Verdugo and Clay Holmes. Verdugo was traded to the Yankees by the Boston Red Sox in the last year of his contract. The 28-year-old has stated that his season didn’t go exactly the way he wanted it to as he posted a career-low .647 OPS in the regular season and hasn’t made noise with his bat in October either, batting .195.  A reunion with Verdugo figures to be unlikely with top prospect Jasson Dominguez waiting in the wings which makes Tuesday being his last game in pinstripes a reality. Holmes has been effective for Aaron Boone out of the bullpen in the postseason — 2.61 ERA — however, the road was very bumpy along the way. The right-hander was demoted from the closer role after allowing a walk-off homer on Sept. 3. The 31-year-old blew a franchise record 13 saves in 2024. Other notable Bombers who could be getting ready in the home clubhouse for the last time are Anthony Rizzo ($17 million team option), Tim Hill and Tommy Kahnle. Boone also has a club option for 2025, however, a change in leadership would seem unlikely after a trip to the World Series.
