KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are continuing to make some noise ahead of the trade deadline, this time by acquiring outside linebacker Josh Uche from the New England Patriots. Uche provides the Chiefs with another pass rusher, something you can never have too many of, and should help make things easier on the secondary, who is dealing with injuries at the second cornerback position. He also didn't play in the Patriots Week 8 win over the New York Jets, an indication that he was headed elsewhere. The Patriots have trailed a majority of the season and are in the midst of rebuilding, so Uche should see a bigger role on the Chiefs and improved numbers. “(The Chiefs) didn’t give up anything in my mind," Former Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick said on the Pat McAfee show. "Josh Uche’s a really good rusher. He hasn’t had a chance to rush much this year for the Patriots because they’ve been behind a lot. "He'll have a lot of opportunities to rush in Kansas City. I think that he'll really help them. He has surprising power for his size. He's got excellent quickness and a good get off and he has some flexibility in coverage." Belichick coached Uche for three seasons, drafting him out of Michigan in 2020 in the 2nd Round. The Chiefs only had to trade a 2026 6th Round pick for Uche. He is on the final year of his contract His best season so far was in 2022. He had 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and nine tackles for loss. Uche could get a significant amount of snaps right away with Danna dealing with a pectoral injury and Omenihu still gearing up to return from a torn ACL. While the Chiefs defense has been one of the top units in the NFL over the past two seasons, they could use improvement when it comes to getting to the quarterback. They're currently ranked 24th in sacks so far this season with 15, a major contrast from last season, where they finished second. "[Uche] will be a nice addition," head coach Andy Reid said on Monday. He could see his first action when the Chiefs host the Tampa Buccaneers on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
