Chilly air swept the DMV over the weekend, leading to a cold, frosty morning that ended the growing season across the entire area. Temperatures were right around freezing outside a few locations, but it's already warmed back up into the 50s and 60s. Sunny skies will continue with high pressure stationed nearby yet again, with temperatures peaking to comfortable levels in the mid-60s later this afternoon. Southerly winds will develop tonight, with a few clouds rolling in, keeping it from getting as cold. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 30s to mid-40s by sunrise on Tuesday. This warming trend will be the theme of our weather pattern through these final days of October, with readings steadily rising each day thanks to southerly winds and sunshine. High pressure will continue to sit off the Atlantic Coast, with a few storm systems passing by to the north and pushing occasional waves of clouds through. Tuesday will feature more cloud cover, but afternoon highs will top out around 70 degrees. Wednesday will be sunnier, with highs up to around 80 degrees. Overnight lows will steadily rise each night, starting in the 40s and eventually reaching the 50s by Wednesday night. It will be an unseasonably warm Halloween, so hopefully, everyone's costumes will be lighter. Temperatures will peak in the lower 80s Thursday afternoon under a partly cloudy sky. Trick-or-treaters will also be greeted by mild temperatures into the night, with most locations only cooling off into the 60s. Cloud cover will continue to increase into the night as a weakening cold front approaches, giving us our first shot in weeks at ending this extremely long dry stretch. We will likely end the month of October without measurable rain in 29 days, but isolated showers will be possible Friday morning as the front sweeps through. The best chance for measurable rainfall will be to the west, closer to the mountains. We will watch this rainfall chance in the coming days, but either way, it will get chillier with dry conditions returning for the upcoming weekend.
