NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC 36 News Now) – Authorities have identified Michael Murphy, 72, and Connie Murphy, 72, as the victims of a tragic powered parachute crash in Jessamine County. The couple’s ultralight aircraft went down in a field off Ashgrove Road Sunday afternoon. The coroner confirms both died from injuries sustained in the crash. Community members who knew the Murphy’s say they were well-known in the area. “Him and his wife, flew almost every day, across the field, they flew for about an hour, hour and a half almost every day,” said Chad Rayyan, a nearby store owner. “I sit there and wave at them and they wave back,” said Rayyan. Rayyan says that Michael frequently visited the shop and occasionally brought in his grandchildren. The crash happened right down the road from his store. “I was shocked, I was totally shocked, it happened, I said man that’s right across the street from my store,” said Rayyan. “He [Michael] was here about three weeks ago, talked to me and my son, and we chatted for a little while, and he seemed like he was having fun doing it, it just kind of puzzled me to see him gone.” Rayyan says those coming into the story on Monday have been talking about the tragedy as it’s taking a toll on the community in the surrounding Ashgrove Road area. “Everybody around here is talking about it, all my customers are talking about it, they say ‘have you heard what happened,’ I say ‘oh yeah, I heard it’s a sad situation’,” said Rayyan, “he’s just a good friend, you know we lost a good friend,” he said. Authorities ask people to avoid the area near Ashgrove Road and Connie Way as the investigation continues.
