RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- Musicians and music lovers came together in Raleigh Sunday night to help Western North Carolina. The 'Music for the Mountains' benefit concert was held at Red Hat Amphitheater. The concert raised $1,104,000, according to organizers. Band Together, which uses music to benefit non-profits, is one of the organizers of the event. Thorne Daubenspeck is Band Together's Executive Director. "We're really excited to be at least, to do our part here locally," Daubenspeck said. "There's so much need, and there's going to be so much need for the next couple of years. What better way just bringing the community together through the power of live music. So, impact music that's why we're here." For BJ Barham, the chance to help people in Western North Carolina was a no-brainer. He's the lead singer-songwriter for the band American Aquarium. "When people call and ask what I can do for something, I'm not good at much, I write songs and I sing songs, and so an event like this is, is something I love being a part of," Barham said. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from ticket sales, food and merchandise at the concert, and a telethon went to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. The organization gives grants to non-profits working in the community, like helping with housing or food pantries. Elizabeth Brazas is the organization's President/CEO. She said the concert didn't just raise money for the region, but it also raised morale. "The fact that the musicians are gathering and using their talent to support us is inspiring," Brazas said.
