The Palomares League girls golf individual championship featured an impressive field. Claremont’s Kristina Xu emerged as the champion after two days of competition at Jurupa Hills Country Club in Riverside and Santa Anita Golf Course. Xu opened the tournament with a 4-under-par 67 at Jurupa Hills Country Club and held a 1-shot lead over Walnut’s Chloe Cheng entering the second day. Xu carded a 3-under-par 71 at Santa Anita Golf Course and prevailed by one stroke. Diamond Bar’s Carol Yan made a strong run at the title, however. Yan shot a 1-under 70 on the opening day and followed with a 5-under 69 on day two to be the runner-up. Walnut’s Vivi Yen (74-71-145) and Diamond Bar’s Juliet Oh (70-75-145) finished at even par, while Cheng finished fifth at 1 over (68-78-146). Joining Xu, Yan, Yen, Oh and Cheng as CIF Southern Section individual qualifiers were Claremont’s Riley Wang (75-74-149); Walnut teammates Jackie Li (74-77-151), Kaylin Rhee (74-78-152) and Katie Zheng (70-83-153); the Ayala duo of Madison Soong (75-77-152) and Iris Soong (77-76-153); and Diamond Bar’s Moanikeala Finau (77-78-155). Palomares League qualifiers will compete at the Central Regional on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bear Valley Golf Club in Victorville. HIGHLIGHTS FROM OTHER LEAGUE FINALS   Click here to read about the Southwestern League girls golf individual championships   CITRUS BELT LEAGUE Beaumont’s Maleah Clark continued an impressive freshman season by winning the individual championship with a combined 6-under-par (67-71-138) over two days at Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino. Clark’s opening round of 67 (5 under) was a career low. She finished the round by making three birdies over the final five holes. Her second day score (1 under 71) was the second-lowest round of the tournament. Clark’s teammate Ellie Kim finished as the runner-up at 6 over par (73-77-150). Joining Clark and Kim as CIF Southern Section regioanal qualifiers were Alyssa Azurin of Redlands (90-97-187) and Braylon Reyes (95-105-200). Citrus Belt League qualifiers will compete at the Central Regional on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bear Valley Golf Club in Victorville. BIG VIII LEAGUE Santiago freshman Finlay Nihei captured the league title with a combined score of 1 over par (75-74-149) over two days at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. It marks the second straight year a freshman has captured the Big VIII League title. King’s Emilyn Czaplicki won the individual crown last season. Nihei shot a 1-over-par 75 on the first day (North Course) and trailed King’s Sarani Yapa by two strokes. Nihei made two birdies on the front nine on the second day (South Course) to take the lead, and she held on to win by two strokes. Yapa was second at 3 over (73-78-151). Czaplicki was third at 4 over (78-77-155). Joining Nihei, Yapa and Czaplicki as CIF Southern Section regional qualifiers were the Roosevelt duo of Amelia Chen (79-82-161) and Valentina Rodriguez (82-89-171); Norco teammates Rylee Sabas-Hubbard (88-85-173) and Tessa Smith (83-91-174); and Santiago’s Charvi Shukla (89-88-177), Big VIII League qualifiers will compete at the Central Regional on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bear Valley Golf Club in Victorville. BASELINE LEAGUE Rancho Cucamonga’s Emily Zhang shot a combined 2 over par (74-70-144) over two days at Jurupa Hills Country Club in Riverside to capture the league title. Zhang was the only golfer to shoot a round under par. Her second day included five birdies and four bogeys. Zhang won the title by six strokes. Los Osos teammates Erin Miyagishima and Alexis Lee tied for second place with identical scores, as both golfers carded a pair of 75s to finish 8 over par. Joining Zhang, Miyagishima and Lee as CIF Southern Section regional qualifiers were Abigail Carlos of Etiwanda (79-82-161), Jenna Trinidad of Los Osos (84-80-164) and Madison Kim of Chino Hills (83-86-169). Baseline League qualifers will compete at the Central Regional on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bear Valley Golf Club in Victorville. IVY LEAGUE North’s Mandy Zhong shot a combined score of 4 over par to win the league title. Zhong shot a 3-under-par 34 (nine holes) during the tournament’s opening round at Dos Lagos Country Club in Corona. She shot a 79 (7 under over 18 holes) on the second day at Indian Hills Country Club in Riverside. Liberty’s Zihong Sun was the runner up with a combined score of 7 over (38-79). Joining Zhong and Sun as CIF Southern Section regional qualifiers were Arianna Soto of Riverside Poly (38-84-122) and Liberty teammates Ava Carillo (37-88-125) and Jamie Bustos (44-84-128). Ivy League qualifers will compete at the Central Regional on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bear Valley Golf Club in Victorville. MOUNTAIN PASS LEAGUE Temescal Canyon’s Addisyn Myers finished at 20 over par to win the league title. Myers shot a 7-over-par 43 (nine holes) on the first day of the tournament and a 13-over-par 85 (18 holes) on day two. Both rounds were at Legends Golf Club in Temecula. Elsinore’s Zaylee Wheelock made a late charge for the title but finished one shot short at 21 over (45-84-129). Wheelock’s sister Trinity placed third (44-87-131). Joining Myers and the Wheelocks as CIF Southern Section regioanal qualifiers was Taylor Mrosek of Temescal Canyon (42-93-135). Mountain Pass League qualifiers will compete at the Central Regional on Monday, Oct. 28, at Bear Valley Golf Club in Victorville. RIVER VALLEY LEAGUE Jurupa Valley’s Kaelyn Fiechter won the league title with a final score of 30 over par. Fiechter shot an 8-over-par 44 (nine holes) on the opening day and followed with a 22-over 94 on day two. Both rounds were at Green River Golf Course in Corona. Ramona’s Kayleen McCann (41-98-139) finished one shot back of Fiechter. Joining Fiechter and McCann as CIF Southern Section regional qualifiers were Leslie Hernandez of Patriot (42-102-144) and Preslee Sanchez of Jurupa Valley (56-92-144).
