Tonight, overnight temperatures will quickly drop into the upper 20s and lower to mid-30s under clear skies and calm winds. As a result, the National Weather Service has upgraded the Freeze Watches of yesterday to Freeze Warnings, which remain in effect tonight for all locations where the growing season is still active, mainly east of the Blue Ridge. Dry and mainly sunny skies will start a new work week as temperatures gradually moderate throughout the period. Monday will be the calmest day of the short term, as we begin with temperatures in the upper 20s and low to mid-30s before climbing to the upper 50s and low 60s in the afternoon. Tuesday, the winds switch to the southeast as high pressure pushes offshore, and the thermometer responds by rising into the mid to upper 60s and low 70s Tuesday afternoon. A warm southerly wind will arrive by mid-week, with high offshore pressure, resulting in well above-normal high temperatures. Daytime highs across the DMV will be 10-15 degrees warmer than usual, and we'll see an uptick in clouds, even though it will stay dry until Thursday night. A cold front looks to arrive overnight Thursday, and it will be the first time we see showers in the forecast. The front will linger into early Friday morning, as will a few showers. By next weekend, we'll return to the sunny, dry weather typical throughout October. Still, there remains some uncertainty about whether another round of showers could affect the region next Sunday or Monday of next week, so keep following our WDCW weather team all week for further information. 7-Day Forecast: Tonight: Mostly clear skies and chilly.***FREEZE WARNING*** Lows will be in the 20s and 30s.
