After falling a degree short of a record high on Saturday, temperatures have taken a major tumble this Sunday. Highs have struggled to clear the 60º mark around the Piedmont and Foothills as clouds and northeasterly breezes have made themselves at home in the Carolinas. Expect more of the same as we kick off the workweek, although Monday should be slightly warmer. A classic winter wedge setup will make the forecast difficult for the first two days of the workweek – models are ranging between the upper 50s and lower 70s on Monday and Tuesday, but the Metro should largely find itself in the upper 60s for both days. Both days will start with mostly cloudy skies before some clearing arrives in the afternoons. A major pattern change arrives in the Carolinas by midweek as winds shift out of a more southeasterly direction. Sunshine and highs well into the 70s find their way into the Piedmont and Foothills on Wednesday, setting us up for quite the treat on Halloween Thursday. Afternoon temperatures have a good shot at cracking 80º in the Queen City for October’s final day. A cold front will approach our area by the end of the week, but your trick-or-treating plans will not be impacted. Next weekend looks cooler with a few rain chances. Tonight: Cloudy and cool. Low: 52°. Wind: NE 5-10. Monday: Mostly cloudy early, then some clearing. High: 65°. Wind: NE 5-10. Monday Night: Variable clouds. Low: 52°. Wind: Light. Tuesday: AM cloudy. PM partly sunny. High: 67°. Wind: NE 5-10.
