SHREVEPORT, LA (KTAL/KMSS) — A youth orchestra from Shreveport will perform at a Northwest Louisiana college in early November, and you're invited to the free performance. The Centenary Youth Orchestra's fall concert, "Fall Fantasia," will be held at Anderson Auditorium in Centenary's Hurley School of Music on Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Featured soloists include recent Centenary College graduate Carson Alvarez ('23) and Felix Krause, who will graduate in 2025. Dick Harris, a senior at Haughton High School, will also be featured in the performance. Alvarez will play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 8 "Lützow" in C-Major, K. 246. A Ralph Vaughn-Williams piece called 'Fantasia' inspired the name for the Centenary Youth Orchestra's autumn concert. Hidden history: Oil City, La. had a different name before the oil boom "Felix and Darick truly exemplify the core of the CYO's mission statement in creating the opportunity for the best musicians from both area high schools and our college to become colleagues and mutual mentors,” said Dan Santelices, the orchestra's director. The youth orchestra will play a portion of Tschaikowsky's Swan Lake, including the pas de deux solos performed by Centenary seniors Dominick Benedetto and Gene Angelo Nucal. The “Fall Fantasia” concert will also feature a portion of Allen Silvestri's score to the film Forrest Gump. Santelices said that Silvestri’s score is magical. The youth orchestra gives junior high and high school students college-level playing experiences. Members play strings, woodwinds, and brass in chamber and large-scale orchestral settings. The concert will be streamed live on the CYO Facebook page at centenary.edu/cyo. For more information, visit centenary.edu/hurley.
