AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Temperatures reached the 90s in Austin for the 5th day in a row in Austin with the potential for one more on Monday before cooler and wetter weather returns. Tonight will be mostly clear this evening, but low clouds will come back to begin your Monday morning before lifting and revealing plenty of sunshine. We'll get some scattered clouds to puff up on Monday afternoon, but highs should still push back to 90º for one more day. Big Picture The pattern this will will be driven by weakening high pressure and then by a strong Pacific storm that will drag a cold front near, but not likely through, Central Texas. As high pressure weakens our temperatures will slowly come down. As that high slides to the east we'll find rain chances will slowly come up thanks to a moist flow from the southeast and slowly increasing lift. Pattern by late Tuesday The cold from likely stays just north of us on Thursday (Halloween), but it's closer position should bring us our highest rain chances of the week. Rain chances for the next week While rain chances pick up on Tuesday and continue through the weekend, it doesn't appear (yet) that will we get a lot of rain from these wet days, but instead some generally lighter showers along with isolated storms. We expect most areas will end up getting a quarter inch to 1 inch of rain by next Sunday (November 3). Rain potential through next weekend No day looks to be a washout with plenty of dry time ahead this week, but it's worth grabbing the rain gear and having it ready as rain coverage grows. The severe weather risk appears low with the strongest storms expected north of our area on Thursday. Get the latest tropical update here. MISS THE COLD?
