An SUV was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Heisley Road and Mentor Avenue on Oct. 27, sending one woman to the hospital, according to reports. According to Mentor Fire Department Deputy Chief Ron Zak, appointed as acting chief following retirement of Chief Robert Searles, there was one person in the SUV and she self-extricated before crews arrived. Zak said the department assumes she broke out her door window to get out, and that the driver of the SUV had minor injuries and was transported to UH Lake Medical Center West. The driver and passengers in the pickup truck were not injured and refused transport. Zak said the department does not have specifics on who was at fault or the exact cause of the incident.
