This week, they’re hosting the 1-5 Tennessee Titans, but Lions coaches have insisted this team is better than their record suggests. “It’s an outstanding defense. Yards-wise it’s the number one defense in the league, outstanding on third down,” coach Dan Campbell said this week. “And, really, the stat is turnovers, it’s the turnover ratio. They’ve given up a couple and they haven’t gotten any on defense, so you flip that just a little bit and they’re not sitting where they are. So good football team that we’ve got to be ready for.” The 5-1 Lions cannot afford a slip-up given how tight the division is. While the Minnesota Vikings dropped their “Thursday Night Football” contest to the Los Angeles Rams, the NFC North remains tight—particularly given that the Packers (vs. Jaguars) and the Bears (vs. Commanders) both have winnable games this week. Here’s a look at the standings as of Sunday morning: Lions: 5-1 Vikings: 5-2 Packers: 5-2 Bears: 4-2 A second loss from the Lions would drop them into the rest of the mucky NFC North with a huge game coming next week in Green Bay. If Detroit wants to keep their advantage, their offense will have to be at its best, and the defense will have to weather the injury storm on the edge.
