Driver killed in wrongway crash on SR76; DUI suspected

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man in his 30s was killed in a wrong-way crash on eastbound State Route 76 Saturday, according to the Oceanside Police Department. The incident occurred just west of Melrose Drive around 9:26 p.m.
Police said the man, who was traveling the wrong-way, was driving a tan Buick Century when he collided with a white Honda Clarity, which was driven by 20-year-old Oceanside resident Stephanie Zamora.
The man, whose identity is being withheld, suffered major injuries and ultimately succumbed to those injuries at 9:31 p.m., the department confirmed. Meanwhile, Zamora sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Palomar Hospital in Escondido for treatment.
Police said alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be factors in this fatal collision. The Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting an investigation. Anyone with information regarding this wrong-way crash is asked to call Officer Kevin Lissner at (760) 435-4651.
