New Orleans police search for suspect in alleged arson investigation

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department is searching for a man accused of setting fire to an Iberville apartment.
Around 11:39 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, firefighters with the New Orleans Fire Department were called to the scene of a one-alarm fire in the 1500 block of Conti Street.

The first unit arrived at 11:43 p.m. to find a man outside suffering from minor smoke inhalation. He was given oxygen and later transferred to University Medical Center.
According to the NOPD, the fire was the result of an argument between the victim and another man. He told officers that the friend allegedly threatened him, squirted flammable liquid through the apartment, started the fire and left.
Responders arrived to find light smoke and minor fire damage in areas of the apartment where the flames had been put out by the building's sprinkler system.

Seven NOFD units carrying 19 responders were abe to get the situation under control by 11:55 p.m.
The cause of the fire was determined to be aggravated arson. NOPD officers are investigating to find the person of interest.
