Overnight crash leaves two dead, local business damaged in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two people are dead after an overnight crash near Truman Road and Jackson Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, preliminary investigations revealed that just before 3:45 a.m., a Dodge Hornet was speeding southbound on Jackson Avenue before the driver drove through a red light.

As the Dodge ran the traffic signal, a Ford Fusion driving eastbound on Truman Road entered the intersection. The Dodge then hit the left side of the Ford, forcing it to crash into a wooden utility pole.
After the initial crash, the Dodge continued southeast before crashing into a business, Cash America Pawn.
When officers and EMS arrived at the scene, both the front passenger of the Dodge and the driver of the Ford were pronounced dead.
Overland Park family displaced after Saturday morning house fire
The driver and two other passengers in the Dodge were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
KCPD said the driver of the Dodge is under investigation for impairment.
