Mocksville man accused of assault, charged with firstdegree murder, deputies say

ADVANCE, N.C. (WGHP) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder following an alleged assault on a victim, the Davie County Sheriff's Office says.
According to a Facebook post, deputies responded to an active disturbance and assault with injuries in the 3400 block of North Carolina Highway 801S in Advance, NC.
They learned multiple people were there for a gathering. During the evening, a disturbance evolved into an alleged assault on Shane Crotts, 50, of Advance.
Crotts was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an initial investigation, Joel Johnson, 26, of Mocksville was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
He was placed in the Davie County Detention Center with no bond.
