GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) - A single-vehicle accident along Highway 17 in Georgetown County has resulted in one fatality. The crash occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday on Waterford Road, approximately four miles south of Pawleys Island. According to Sgt. Tyler Tidwell of the Georgetown County Highway Patrol, the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling east on Waterford Road when it veered off the roadway. The vehicle struck an embankment, overturned, and collided with several trees. The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Georgetown County Coroner's Office has yet to release the victim's identity. An investigation is ongoing.
