Spending for education in Utah has nearly doubled in the past 15 years, yet student outcomes have remained essentially flat. As taxpayers it is not unreasonable to expect a return on our investment. In this case increased spending on education should be expected to produce improved achievement for our student population. It hasn’t. While experience is always valued, sometimes experience alone isn’t enough to move the needle. It takes new ideas, new perspectives and new motivations to make that happen.“The Utah State Board of Education is a constitutionally established, elected, partisan body that exercises general control and supervision over the public education system in Utah, including establishing the state educational core standards, state educator licensing policies, and state high school graduation standards.”  Led by this board, Utah education doing the same things over and over again and not getting improved results in the form of student achievement is a call for new blood and new thinking. Discussions, even debate about issues impacting education from people with differing opinions is healthy, giving perspective and opportunity for consideration. However, stances on singular issues should not alone define a candidate.  We need candidates who are motivated to find best solutions and who are willing to take input from all sides and all constituencies and from there push for best outcomes for all. That is where transparency, integrity and an ability to truly represent those who are served is manifest.I have observed and been acquainted with Diane Livingston for many years. Her moral values and ethics are above reproach. She is completely transparent in her views and actions, but reasonable and rational in her consumption of input and representation of what she hears.  If we are looking for a representative on the state school board who is a clear thinker, not saddled with past relationships or beholden to special interests, and who will represent the parents and students of Park City with grace and integrity, then Diane Livingston is a very good choice.Randy FaveroPark CityThe post A very good choice appeared first on Park Record.
