EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- Canutillo Independent School District will break ground next week on the first project from the $386.2 million bond that voters approved in May. The first project will be the installation of lights for the baseball and softball fields at Canutillo High School. The groundbreaking ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Canutillo High baseball field, 6675 S. Desert Blvd. The $620,000 project will install state-of-the-art lights that will allow the school to schedule evening games at home, the district said. The project will take three months to complete and is scheduled to be completed by the start of the baseball and softball seasons in the spring. This project is part of the more than $16.5 million in investments that the bond will make at Canutillo High. “We are thrilled to kick off the construction phase of our bond program and to be on a timeline that will allow us to deliver these improvements to our students and families in a prompt manner,” Superintendent Pedro Galaviz said. “The installation of this lighting system will allow us to schedule evening games for baseball and softball, which will no longer require us to pull kids from afternoon classes so they can compete at home.” The lighting project was designed by MNK Architects and will be done by Musco Lighting. All Canutillo Bond work is being managed by PROCEDEO Group, a nationally recognized bond program management company. The new lighting system will include features like wireless controls, color-changing technology, advanced integration to video and audio displays and reduced energy consumption.
