A man and woman suspected of stealing $123,000 of beauty merchandise during over 50 robberies in California were arrested in Ontario on Thursday, Oct. 24, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced.
On August 28, 2024, around 6:00 p.m., deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station were called to a beauty supply store. Employees told them that a man and woman, later identified as 51-year-old Giovanni Munoz Leon and 32-year-old Nury Herrera of Ontario, picked over $3,000 in beauty products and left the store without attempting to pay.
Exactly one month later, the suspects returned to the same store and stole an additional $2,000 of merchandise, according to the sheriff’s department.
The sheriff’s department declined to name the store.
Deputies and investigators from the Lake Elsinore Robbery/Burglary Team concluded that between June and October of 2024, Leon and Herrera were responsible for over 50 thefts in California, where they stole a total of $123,000 in merchandise.
On Thursday, Oct. 24, deputies stopped the suspects’ vehicle in Ontario. Both were detained.
A search warrant of their Ontario home revealed evidence connecting them to the beauty product crimes; stolen clothing from multiple retailers was also found, authorities said.
Leon and Herrera were arrested and booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center for multiple counts of grand theft, organized retail crime theft and conspiracy.
Officials did not say what they believe the pair intended to do with the merchandise.
Anyone with information related to the investigation can contact Deputy Noel at the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station, at 951-245-3300.
