RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Heavy traffic is a given when it comes to going to the NC State Fair on a Friday or Saturday night, but this weekend, there's an extra crowd. There are concerts at the Lenovo Center, both Friday and Saturday nights. State troopers directed traffic at several stop lights on major roads like Blue Ridge Road and Trinity Road. North Carolina highway closing for ‘at least’ 4 months CBS 17 spoke to people attending Little Big Town Friday night who said they arrived two hours early to make sure they didn't have any issues. Pat Paine said the traffic was still better than last week when he saw Jeff Dunham on Friday. "We tried in one way, [the GPS] said go the other way, so we did," Paine said. "Then we had to do a U-turn. We got a little crazy in there for a couple of minutes." There was heavy traffic in the area last weekend too for the Sabrina Carpenter concert. CBS 17 also spoke to several fairgoers who parked far away in hopes of avoiding traffic. North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler said there's already agreements between the fair, North Carolina State University, and the Carolina Hurricanes that prohibit home football and hockey games during the fair. Troxler said when the fair is over, he plans to talk to the Lenovo Center to see if they could come to a similar agreement about not having big events there during the fair. Appalachian State University football, normal operations return to Boone one month after Helene "We've got one more partner to bring in to these agreements," he said. "With all that's going to happen out here, all of the entities are gonna have to pull together for all of us to be successful." There's also construction in the area. Blue Ridge Road is still closed at Hillsborough Street for an North Carolina Department of Transportation project that will have the road go under Hillsborough Street.
