BUFFALO, N.Y (WIVB) — Better days are here again. Goat headed in throwback sweaters for the first time this season, and with a soundtrack of songs from the 90s and 2000s setting the vibe, the Sabres broke their power play scoring drought in beating Patrick Kane and the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 on Saturday at KeyBank Center for their third victory in a row. Tage Thompson extended his point streak to six games with a pair of goals and an assist on Jason Zucker's first goal for Buffalo on an early power play, Bowen Byram got the go-ahead goal late in the second period, and the Sabres have evened their record at 4-4-1 with three consecutive regulation wins, a feat they did not achieve all of last season. Jack Quinn sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute after Kane hit the post on good look at a tying goal. Rasmus Dahlin assisted on each of the first three goals, becoming the second defenseman in club history to have multiple points in 40 games, JJ Peterka had two assists, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 22 saves for the Sabres, who have scored four or more goals in their past six games, something the team had not done in 31 years.
