BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge native is currently competing in Season 26 of "The Voice." Cozy Len Gage Jr., also known as Cozy Len, is representing the capital city in the popular singing competition. “I grew up in the North Baton Rouge area and the Glen Oaks area,” Gage said. “Came up in Baton Rouge all my life.”  Gage enjoys singing gospel music and R&B. During his blind audition, he performed Boyz II Men’s "I’ll Make Love to You." Gage shared his feelings while he was performing in the audition. A performance that led to a two-chair turn by Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire. He secured a spot on Team Gwen Stefani. Gonzales Holiday Market: What to know about dates, times and tickets “Once I got to the bridge, I'm thinking in my head, I'm like, man, nobody's turned yet. So, I'm trying not to get too out of way to fluster. But once I got to the top of my song, I saw Gwen turn and I'm like, oh yeah. And I can start just putting the pedal to the metal,” Gage said.  In regard to his team choice, Gage said he felt like Stefani was the right fit.  “I felt like she was the artist on a panel that could probably speak more to my genre and me as an artist,” Gage said.  Regarding his experience, he said Stefani has taught him a lot of stuff.  “She's really a coach that's going to be hard on you in a sense of love, in a way of love to make you the best performer, vocalist and artist that you need to be on stage,” Gage said.  Salsa brand founded by former LSU baseball player, wife now sold in Rouses stores Gage has been singing for decades. He does music gigs, along with singing gospel music at the Healing Place Church off Highland Road, a place where he is able to showcase his love for music.  “There's no better place, I'd rather be than to be on stage, to be in pocket and really open myself up and exemplify that gift,” Gage said.  What exactly made him try out for "The Voice?" A whisper of the spirit of God to pick up his iPad and search for "The Voice" audition dates, which not only happened once but twice.    “I heard the spirit of God speak in me again so clearly. Say, pick up your iPad, see when 'The Voice' is doing auditions. So, I picked up my iPad and when I looked online, I got excited because I saw that they were doing online virtual auditions. In the next week or two. And in my head, I'm like, oh, I can do that,” Gage said.  Now, he says for R&B lovers who loved his performance, he hopes to bring the genre back.  “I'm trying to repeat in history that part that people can bring back real music, you know, real R&B, real soul music,” Gage said.  For supporters, he sends out a message along with gratitude for the attention he has been receiving.  Close Thanks for signing up! Gage also sends out some advice to those seeking a musical career.  “Don't get discouraged with what you're doing. Keep doing what you're doing. Someday, that breakthrough is going to come.
